Is Empathy Stressing You Out?

Empathy, Sympathy and Compassion. 3 words associated with similar emotions, often used interchangeably, however they have different meanings.

Sympathy: Understanding people and their situation, knowing what they're going through.

Empathy: The ability to understand and share the feelings of another; feeling what they're feeling.

Compassion: Understanding what someone's situation and doing something about it.

See the difference there? Can you think of instances where empathy has stressed you out?

It's great to be compassionate, but you can understand someone's circumstance or misfortunes and try to help, without carrying the weight of their emotional burden.
